Huskies Patrick Shearer, Raiders Morris Hart Headline OHA Awards

The Ontario Hockey Association has awarded Patrick Shearer, Head Coach of the Frankford Huskies, the Coach of the Year award, and former Napanee Raiders president Morris Hart the Gold Stick Award. The Annual OHA Awards Celebration was held on June 15th at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, ON.

Shearer completed his third season as the head coach of the Frankford Huskies, helping lead them to a first-place finish in the Tod Division. Shearer helped build a culture of success with the Frankford Huskies organization, alongside Head of Hockey Operations Frank Robinson and General Manager Ian Green.

“In three seasons, with a great ownership group, a supportive management team, Head of Hockey Operations Frank Robinson and General Manager Ian Green, as well a dedicated and knowledgeable coaching, equipment and training staff, we have built the program to a first-place regular season title in the Tod Division,” says Shearer.

The Frankford Huskies saw a 31-point increase in the standings from the previous season, finishing with a 30-8-4 record and holding the 6th highest goal differential of +105. The team’s dominance was further on display as the 2nd place and 4th place teams in the Tod Division were only separated by 3 points. Shearer knows that there is only more to come for the strong team.

“We look forward to continuing the growth of our organization and providing development and memorable experiences for all players in Frankford.” Says Shearer.

Shearer was also awarded the PJHL Coach of the Year and awarded the Tod Division Coaching Staff of the Year.

Napanee Raiders founding member and former president Morris Hart was awarded the OHA’s Gold Stick. The Gold Stick award is presented to someone who has demonstrated outsanding service to the game for a minimum of ten years.

Hart has spent more than 30 years with the Raiders, helping establish the club in 1989 and serving more than two decades as president. Hart continues to assist with the Raiders club to this day.

“It’s not an individual award” Hart told the Napanee Beaver. “It’s an award that is won by many different people that have helped out the Raiders over the years.”

Hart was nominated for the Gold Stick by team’s current GM, Adam Bramburger.

“Morris in so many ways he’s been the leader for our staff. Our volunteers, players, look to him for experience” Bramburger told the Napenee Beaver. “He’s somone you can count on that really put a lot into the this organization to make it as successful as it is.”

The Napanee Raiders claimed the Tod Division title after sweeping the Port Hope Panthers in four games. The Raiders’ season came to a close after falling to the eventual Schmalz Cup runner-ups, the Clarington Eagles, in six games.
