Lakeshore Canadiens – Schmalz Cup Champions

What a great 4 days at the Guelph University to showcase the final four teams in the PJHL. A chance to finally play for a Schmalz Cup Championship after a two-year absence. There was some great hockey. Commissioner Terry Whiteside finally got to hand out the Schmalz Cup in his 3rd year on the job.

The Lakeshore Canadiens defeated the Clarington Eagles 3- 2 in overtime to capture the Schmalz Cup Championship on Sunday afternoon. Lakeshore Captain Dylan Weston scored 41 seconds into overtime to give the Canadiens the victory.

The game was full of excitement with two penalty shots for Lakeshore and some great goaltending by both teams in front of a big crowd. Dylan Weston was also the Commissioners tournament MVP for this year.

Three teams tied for first after the Round Robin. Lakeshore, Clarington and the Stayner Siskins all had 2 wins and 1 loss after three games. After the tiebreaker Lakeshore was first and Clarington second with Stayner third. Grimsby lost all three games but two games went to overtime.

In one semi-final Clarington defeated Stayner 4-1 and Lakeshore defeated Grimsby 5-0.

In Tier two final Hagersville defeated Petrolia 3-2 in overtime in the final. These two teams played a great game in front of another good crowd. Joey Stimac scored the overtime winner 7 minutes into the first overtime period.

The PJHL has decided to use the same playoff format next year.
