CAMBRIDGE, ON – With the holiday break in full swing, the PJHL featured a lighter slate of games this weekend. Despite fewer matchups than usual, teams made the most of their opportunities, delivering strong performances and key results as play resumed following the Christmas break.
Saturday Highlights
Georgina Ice (9) vs. Schomberg Cougars (1)
The Georgina Ice offense was on full display following the Christmas break, rolling to a 9–1 victory over the Schomberg Cougars. The Ice scored nine unanswered goals before the Cougars found the back of the net midway through the third period. Georgina received contributions up and down the lineup, with multi-point performances from Alessandro Petreccia, Carson McKenzie, Connor Sooley, Seth Kirou, Sebastien Ferris, Austin Paulmert, and Antonio Cerqua.
Hanover Barons (3) vs. Wingham Ironmen (2)
It was a tightly contested matchup Saturday night as the North Pollock Division-leading Hanover Barons traveled to Wingham to face the Ironmen. The game was tied 1–1 heading into the third period, despite Hanover holding the edge in shots, as Ironmen goaltender Colin Gibbings kept his team in the game. The Barons finally broke through late, with back-to-back goals from Aaron Dukeshire and Wylie Birkett lifting Hanover to a 3–2 victory.
Orillia Terriers (4) vs. Alliston Hornets (3)
The PJHL Spotlight Matchup of the week lived up to the billing as the Orillia Terriers edged the Alliston Hornets in a thrilling contest. Alliston came out firing, scoring the game’s first two goals within the opening five minutes. Orillia responded, battling back to tie the game 3–3 heading into the final period. Finn Price scored his third goal of the season to give the Terriers the lead, which they held on to for a 4–3 victory.
Sunday Highlights
Port Perry Lumberjacks (7) vs. Caledon Golden Hawks (2)
The Port Perry Lumberjacks traveled to Caledon on Sunday afternoon and delivered a dominant performance in one of just three PJHL games on the day. After the teams were tied 1–1 following the first period, Port Perry took over, scoring six straight goals. Dylan Leslie led the way with a four-goal performance, helping the Lumberjacks earn their 17th win of the season in a 7–2 victory.
Dresden Kings (3) vs. Blenheim Blades (5)
In a highly competitive West Stobbs Division matchup, the Blenheim Blades and Dresden Kings battled for valuable positioning in the standings. Blenheim jumped out to a fast start, scoring four first-period goals that proved decisive. Dresden fought back to make it a one-goal game at 4–3, but Brett Stonehouse sealed the win with a late third-period goal, securing a 5–3 Blades victory.
