CAMBRIDGE, ON – It was another action-packed weekend across the PJHL, with teams battling hard for divisional positioning and momentum early in the season. From overtime thrillers to dominant shutout performances, here’s a look back at some of the standout matchups from Friday through Sunday.
Friday Highlights
Lakeshore Canadians (10) vs. Dresden Kings (0)
The Lakeshore Canadians stay atop the West Stobbs Division with a dominant win over the Dresden Kings. Fifteen different players collected points, including multi-goal efforts from Kyle Greene and Lazar Dragicevic, while Connor Costello led the way with a four-point night. Goaltender Hunter Welk shut the door, stopping all 28 shots he faced for the shutout victory.
North Middlesex Stars (4) vs. Thamesford Trojans (2)
It was a battle of the top two teams in the West Yeck Division on Friday night as the North Middlesex Stars visited the Thamesford Trojans. In a fast-paced matchup full of scoring chances, the Stars came out on top, holding their position atop the division thanks to two goals from Nick Bannister and a stellar 43-save performance from Sean Shanahan.
Port Dover Sailors (4) vs. Dunnville Mudcats (1)
The Port Dover Sailors picked up a big road win over the Dunnville Mudcats, powered by a two-goal effort from Nathaniel Miron. Goaltender Max Wilson was outstanding between the pipes, stopping 47 of 48 shots to lead the Sailors to victory.
Dundas Blues (6) vs. Grimsby Peach Kings (5) – OT
What a game it was in Grimsby on Friday night. The Peach Kings jumped out to a 5–3 lead in the first period, but the Dundas Blues battled back to tie it 5–5 by the end of regulation. In overtime, Jack Restauri scored his fourth goal of the night to complete the comeback and secure the road win for Dundas.
Uxbridge Bruins (2) vs. Clarington Eagles (1)
The Uxbridge Bruins remain undefeated after edging the Clarington Eagles at home. After Clarington opened the scoring early in the first period, Bruins goaltender Robby DiMaria shut the door, stopping 32 of 33 shots. The Bruins capitalized on their chances, scoring twice to seal another win on home ice.
Tavistock Braves (5) vs. Norwich Merchants (4) – OT
The Tavistock Braves earned a massive road win in their South Doherty Division division race. Ryan McKellar tied the game late in the third period, and it didn’t take long in overtime for Yann Raskin to score his second of the night, lifting the Braves to victory.
Mount Forest Patriots (3) vs. Kincardine Bulldogs (2)
The Mount Forest Patriots narrowly defeated the Kincardine Bulldogs in dramatic fashion. With the game tied 2–2 in the final minute, Mason Eurig scored a shorthanded goal to give the Patriots a thrilling 3–2 win.
Saturday Highlights
Dorchester Dolphins (9) vs. Tavistock Braves (4)
The Dorchester Dolphins exploded offensively on home ice, defeating the Tavistock Braves 9–4. The Dolphins scored six goals in the third period, including tallies from Lucas Wilson and Wyatt Adkins to seal the win. Nolan Burnside led the charge with a hat trick, while Jeremy Hardeman turned aside 46 of 50 shots in goal.
Alliston Hornets (7) vs. Innisfil Spartans (2)
The Alliston Hornets remained undefeated with a strong road win over the Innisfil Spartans. After trailing 2–1 following the first period, the Hornets erupted for five goals in the second and scored six unanswered to secure another convincing victory.
Orillia Terriers (4) vs. Midland Flyers (2)
The Orillia Terriers earned a much-needed win over the Midland Flyers as they continue their push in the North Carruthers Division standings. After falling behind 2–0, Orillia responded with four unanswered goals. Goalie Wilson Mackey was outstanding, stopping 35 of 37 shots to shut the door the rest of the way.
Picton Pirates (3) vs. Port Hope Panthers (2)
The Picton Pirates completed a thrilling comeback, scoring all three of their goals in the third period to defeat the Port Hope Panthers. Colby Leaver scored the go-ahead goal late in the game to secure the victory.
Sunday Highlights
Georgina Ice (10) vs. Caledon Golden Hawks (0)
The Georgina Ice continued their red-hot play with a dominant 10–0 win over the Caledon Golden Hawks. The trio of Seth Ursomarzo (4G, 3A), Seth Kirou (3G, 4A), and Sebastien Ferris (1G, 5A) led the offensive explosion in an all-around statement win.
Norwich Merchants (4) vs. Woodstock Navy Vets (0)
The Norwich Merchants earned a huge Sunday afternoon victory over their rivals, the Woodstock Navy Vets. Tyler McDole recorded a hat trick to lead the way, while goaltender Nolan Chartrand earned his first PJHL win and shutout — a memorable performance for the netminder.
Wingham Ironmen (4) vs. Mitchell Hawks (3) – OT
It was a thriller in Mitchell as the Ironmen and Hawks battled into overtime. With Mitchell leading 3–2 late in the third, Kaeden MacDonald tied the game for Wingham, sending it to extra time. Noah Bloemberg then played hero, scoring the overtime winner to lift the Ironmen to a 4–3 road victory.
