The Tavistock Braves unveiled on September 24th that the team will be wearing alternate jerseys on special events, paying homage to the 1969-1970 inaugural team. The team will wear these jerseys for the first time on Saturday September 28th against the New Hamburg Firebirds.
The Braves revealed on September 24th that the team will be wearing alternate jerseys on special occasions, with a design replicating the first Tavistock Braves’ team from the 1969-1970 season. The jersey boasts font and colour similar to the original team, with modern elements such as the team logo branded as the shoulder patch.
The idea came to Braves General Manager, Brent Lange, when one of the alumni from the original team, Bob Zehr, graciously donated his jersey to be a part of the team’s dressing room upgrades. The jersey has been hung up on the dressing room walls, but the team saw an opportunity to pay homage to the original design.
“It was simple but it was pretty cool to show the history of this team,” says Brent. “Bob [Zehr] was gracious enough to donate his jersey, and the guys really appreciated it, they didn’t get to see it until we did our team headshots. They were pretty pumped up.”

The associated U18 team, the Tavistock Jr. Braves, will also be wearing the throwback jerseys in collaboration with the team.
As part of the event, the Braves have invited alumni from the original 1969-1970 Tavistock Braves’ team to attend the game, wearing the same jersey they wore 55 years ago.
“We wanted to pay respect to them. I’ve already started to get emails from former players that want to attend. Our bus driver was one of the players from that original team, so him [and Bob] have been great at rallying the troops to attend.”

The Tavistock fans will get to see the new jersey for the first time on Saturday, September 28th as the Braves (2-1-0-0) host the New Hamburg Firebirds (3-1-0-0) for the second time this season. The Braves defeated the Firebirds 9-6 in their home opener on September 13th.
