The Provincial Junior Hockey League and host teams Wellesley Applejacks and North Middlesex Stars hosted the PJHL Prospect Game on Saturday November 2nd, powered by the Dairy Farmers of Ontario. The event focused on showcasing the PJHL’s brightest upcoming 16- and 17-year-old players to scouts and local fans.
The event kicked off with the group of players arriving to their respective locations, welcomed by the team’s and PJHL staff. Each player was treated to special speaker, and provided with a new PJHL hoodie for their representation.
The North and the West Conference played at the North Middlesex and District Arena. Goaltender Trevor Woods of the Fergus Whalers stopped all 19 shots that came his way in his 30 minutes of playing time, helping the North Conference jump out to a 3-1 lead after two periods. The West Conference mounted a comeback with three goals in the third, but Max Geere of the Penetang Kings scored with four seconds remaining the period to tie the game at four. Lucas Rogers of the Petrolia Flyers scored the only goal in the shootout to secure the win for the West Conference by a score of 5-4.
The East and South battled it out at the Wellesley Community Centre. Goaltender Owen Papp of the Dundas Blues was a wall in net, stopping an onslaught of 26 shots in his 29 minutes of playing time. Cole Schoup of the Dorchester Dolphins broke the ice scoring for the South Conference part way through the second period. Caledon’s Roenik Mahal and Frankford’s Avery Wease tried to mount the comeback for the East Conference, but an additional two third period goals would secure the win for the South Conference by a score of 3-2.
Goaltender Owen Papp was named the MilkUp MVP of the South Conference, stopping all 29 shots that came his way. Roenik Mahal was named the MVP of the East Conference with one goal. For the North, Wyatt Thomas of the Kincardine Bulldogs was named MVP with one goal, while North Middlesex Stars’ Will Bos was named MVP for the West with one goal.
