It is with deeply saddened hearts that the PJHL announces the passing of Bill Stobbs.
Leamington raised, Bill Stobbs began his career in the OHA as the President of the Chatham Pontiacs Senior Hockey Team in 1979-1981 as well as an executive member of the Allan Cup Champion Petrolia Squires in 1979.
In 1986 Bill joined the OHA Board of Directors, serving in a number of different roles including Director, Vice-Chairman, Chairman and Advisory Board Member.
His work as Chairman of the Great Lakes Junior C League was invaluable. In 2008, he helped to rewrite the league’s constitution.
Bill’s involvement in the game goes outside the OHA, from 1995 until 2003 Bill was the Director of the Hockey Development Centre of Ontario (HDCO) which distributes funding to all Ontario Hockey organizations. During this time he also held positions within the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) as their Chairman of Senior and Adult Recreational Hockey and was Treasurer from 1999-2003.
In 2007 Bill was awarded the OHA Gold Stick, awarded by the OHA for outstanding service to the game other than as a player. In 2010 Bill was named an official OHA Life Member, the highest honour within the Association.
Bill has been happily married to his wife Joan for 65 years. Together they raised 3 children, and have 4 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The PJHL sends its thoughts and prayers to Bill’s family, friends and all other lives that his presence has touched.
